Metamorphosis

2008

This process of making serves as a vehicle for internal acceptance and revelation. The body is used as a metaphor for the interior self. Segmented body parts represent repetitive patterns that are destructive yet comforting to the psyche. Upon abstraction the images become personal Rorschach tests on which the emotions that surface are expressed through drawing and painting.  The mark of the hand is used to transform the body into new, individual creations. They become grotesque yet playful specimen of fantasy, representing different ways of processing.  However, the transparency of the watercolor, allows the photograph to show through, documenting an ambivalent yet simultaneous fear of and desire for metamorphosis.  These specimen serve as evidence of self-examination; singular traces of specific emotions experienced.
