My process is a vehicle for internal acceptance and revelation. The digitally manipulated and mirrored photographs of segmented body parts represent repetitive patterns that are destructive yet comforting to my psyche, as it is all I’ve ever known. The abstracted images become personal Rorschach tests at which I stare until my emotional response shows me a new image. The mark of my hand—graphite and watercolor on an ink jet image— is used to transform the disarticulated body into new, individual creations. They become grotesque yet playful specimens of fantasy, representing new ways of thinking. However, the transparency of the watercolor, allows the photograph to show through, documenting an ambivalent and simultaneous fear of and desire for metamorphosis. These specimens serve as evidence of self-examination; singular traces of specific emotions experienced. They document a process of accepting the loss of a part of myself that I no longer wish to covet. |
